Convert C6 apps to .Net
Reply Quote
I'm having trouble understanding the work required to covert a C6 app to .Net. I do not write software for resale, just to use within the company. "Sizzle" and "eye candy" are not important to me, features and function are.

Almost everything I have runs through AppGen. Within a year, maybe two I think I will have to provide limited web based apps for our customers.

Any advice, guidance or thoughts?

Rich,

I am far from being expert on any of this, but Clarion.NET came with a C6 utility template that I tried using the SCHOOL example app.  I loaded the School app in C6 ran the utility template which created .NET source.  I loaded that solution in the Clarion .NET IDE and compiled it and I had a running .NET program.  I don't know how well it will work with my own apps, but I was pretty impressed.

At this time, the exact details on doing this is unknown. The current best guess is that such a conversion is very similar to converting a DOS application to a Clarion for Windows one.

Clarion# is a new language, new platform. It is not an update nor upgrade to CW - its different.

Converting all of your existing APPs to Clarion.NET is probably not necessary for you.  Clarion.NET will permit you to create additional applications that function alongside your existing APPs, accessing your existing databases.  I'm pretty sure that you will be able to share dictionaries between C7 and C.NET, so data definitions will stay synchronized.
